The Pit

There's nothing like a good car show and this event is indeed a good one! Each year Roanoke Motor Company hosts a car show called Mopars Invade Roanoke. This is now the 7th year they've held this great event that boasts over 100 cars that come from some pretty far distances and populate this small town with a lot of Mopar muscle. The Viper club always loves to support its favorite dealer (and club sponsor) by having a viper display. We usually have more Vipers there than any other model - and we kept that title yet again!

The forecast for the event was excellent - perhaps even a little hot! It's was sunny and 90 degrees but that didn't keep folks away. As usual, the Viper Club setup its tents right behind the line of Vipers that were given special treatment up on the cement paddock (with all the other cars having to park below on the grass). The shade from the tents really helped. Club members parked their chairs and huddled under 60 feet of tent to keep away from the sun. It always saves us!

The total number of Vipers that made it to the show was 24. The Vipers were an elaborate collection of stock and modified cars. The modifications this year seemed to center around paintwork as there was some truly over the top Viper paint jobs that you just can't walk past without staring.

The show was underway around 10am and there were over 100 cars in attendance. Music was playing, there was a raffle, concessions, and of course awards for the winners. The dealership also had its doors open, so as always it was nice to run in and cool off.

The day was comfortable for everyone and yes of course - we got to look at other Mopars. Everyone was also given a small paper to vote for their favorite cars, this would determine the winners. The club also had another little surprise in store. As has become customary, the club pops for sundaes for all members in attendance. A sundae run was arranged and just before awards, the bags of ice cream sundaes were delivered. What a treat on a truly hot day. Many folks took more than one (we always empty the machine at the restaurant!).

Around 3pm there was a call to gather around the main tents - it was award time. The mic fired up and folks would be called up to receive their awards. On top of the three Viper class awards, there were also two "top 30" awards won by our club members. It was a good day!

Just after awards, everyone began to pack up and say their goodbyes. Cars fired to life and as always engines could be heard roaring for miles leaving the small town. Another successful show! Thanks to everyone who made it out and congrats to the winners!
