Longest Days at Gingerman Raceway and Tire Rack – August 3-4
Another great Longest Day event is now in the books! The Racing Season seems like it is going by fast. This year we were back to the Gingerman Raceway and Tire Rack.
We arrived Thursday afternoon in Michigan were able to get together for dinner in downtown South Haven with pretty much everyone ending up at the famous Sherman’s for ice cream. Sherman’s is always a favorite stop for our Viper crowd.
After all the food, everyone was ready to hit the sack and get some sleep so they were ready for track. The day started off with it being cloudy, cool and dry. After about 2 hours into the sessions we started getting some light drizzle but still running the track until it started to come down to the point of being on the track was like a slow Sunday drive. So we had lunch and tried to wait out the rain. Due to the weather our numbers were down a bit to only thirteen drivers. Unfortunately mother nature had something else in mind and decided she was going to have the rain continue. Around 1pm we decided to call the day and award the trophies. We then headed off to South Bend early for dinner at a club favorite Tippy Canoe restaurant. After dinner folks went back to the hotel to get some sleep to be ready for the autocross at Tire Rack.
We were up early Saturday for a great autocross. Our race director along with the guys from Tire Rack set up the course that we would run for the day. We did get a few more for the autocross since the weather was much more cooperative with some nice temperatures and sun. We had twenty drivers for the autocross and it turned out to be a beautiful day. We were able to get 20 runs in for each driver. Two 6 run sessions in the morning, a club sponsored lunch, 1 golf cart race, and 8 runs in the afternoon.
The day ended around 3pm with the trophies and awards. Our longest day winner was Steve Anders. Well deserved Steve! After the awards we said our goodbyes and all headed home. Another great weekend of Vipers and friends!
